Presentation went well yesterday.Relevant blog posts from Liz and Jim. Pics from my side are available here. Some of mine:
Overall, I think it went pretty darn well, and it looks like PA Team thought so as well. Overall I’m told they gave out around 100 CDs, and got quite a few sign ups for their installfest on June 2nd.

I thought I’d point a few things out…
FreeBSD is based on BSD, which in turn is based on AT&T UNIX.
Then there are the NetBSD, OpenBSD & DragonFly forks of FreeBSD.
And then there’s Debian GNU/Kbsd
Oh and now we have OpenSolaris with several derivatives of it including GNU/OpenSolaris. Nexenta is OpenSolaris + Ubuntu.
Lots of alternatives out there…

Scott,
This is true, there are many alternatives. However, this was a presentation on Linux and Ubuntu, and the part you’re taking in context (Alternatives to Unix?) was during my part on the history of Unix and Linux — there may be lots of options now, but there wasn’t in 1992.
